Photography Tips

What kind of photos do I send for a valuation?

Furniture: Take a shot of the full piece and then some pictures that show the construction of the object, e.g. the back, the bottoms and insides of drawers, the joints of doors and drawers, any original hardware. If you find a maker's mark be sure to include that too.

Artwork: Take a picture of the whole piece, including the frame, if there is one. If it's easily accessible, please include a photo of the back of the piece. Also include a close up of any signatures, titles, edition numbers, labels, or any damage you see.

China and figurines: Take a photo of the full piece and a photo of the bottom. If there are any manufacturer's marks or signatures, include a photo of those. Note any damage, such as chips, cracks, or paint loss.

Other objects: Start with an overall shot of the object. Also include close ups of anything that looks notable, e.g. special features, signatures, labels, markings, damage.

We will follow up with you if we need a specific photograph but this will help you get started. Don't worry about sending too many photos. The more, the better!
